About
The Red Thread represents the invisible connection between women. We may never meet. We may have entirely different lives. But there are things about moving through the world as a woman that we understand in one another without needing them explained. Our stories cross, echo and overlap. We are separate, but we are never entirely alone.
“This archive is not only about assault. It is about what it means to be a woman.”
Women can submit writing about themselves, somebody else, a fictional woman or something somewhere between truth and imagination. It might be about love, anger, girlhood, ageing, desire, motherhood, harassment, friendship, fear, freedom, sex, shame, power, joy, violence, recovery, the body, or simply an ordinary moment that has stayed with them.
It can be an essay, a short story, a memory, a poem, a page of rage or something that doesn't fit neatly into any category at all.
There is only one real requirement: it gives a woman somewhere to express something she carries.
Submissions are published anonymously and brought together in a seasonal digital zine- The Truths Women Carry by Red Thread Archives. Readers can access each edition through a donation, with proceeds helping us create writing workshops for women whose lives have been negatively affected by the actions of men.
Those workshops are not about asking women to recount the worst thing that has ever happened to them. They are about giving women a room, a pen, permission to write and other women to write alongside.
Free-writing.
Fiction.
Poetry.
Characters.
Mess.
Anger.
Humour.
Whatever comes out!
Because sometimes you don't need to tell your story exactly as it happened in order to say something true.
Red Thread Archives exists to collect those truths. To make space for them.
